Trauma and PTSD

115378513You can never forget.

A loud noise, a crowded room, a dark space, late at night, and certain types of people can trigger that past traumatic event. There isn’t much that doesn’t make you think about it.

It’s hard to focus all the time. It’s hard to trust anyone. If anything unexpected happens, you go into a self-defense mode that makes it difficult to maintain social interactions with anyone.

You can’t help what you experienced, what you felt, and what you saw. You saw the worst in people, and you can’t unsee that.

You will never look at people the same.

Other people don’t get it.

Every day is like trying to see life through a lens that no longer works for you.

People expect you to react to everything like everyone else, even though you are forever changed.

They expect you to think like everyone else, but you process things differently due to that experience.

Processing things this way keeps you safe as well as everyone around you.

131446532Trauma does change you.

Trauma changes you forever. That is the truth of the matter.

People who have not experienced what you have will not get what it’s like to go through what you have, get on the other side of that experience, and then live your life like an average person as if that nightmare never happened.

However, what we can do is learn together how better to understand your thoughts, feelings, triggers, and negative responses when you feel them coming on.

Once you become more self-aware, you can become happier because you have learned how to live life to the fullest, even though you have experienced trauma. Let me help.

Therapy can help you reprocess trauma.

Some traumas have long-term effects, causing flashbacks of that traumatic event. This response is called PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and is likely when you continue to stress over the trauma you experienced.

You will never forget about what happened in the past, but therapy can help you reprocess that trauma, allowing you to move forward positively.

Using Trauma-Informed Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, we will work together to identify and discuss your past trauma. Then, we will decide on a suitable approach to help you learn to manage those fears and thoughts that prevent you from having meaningful relationships and living your life without fear of the past.

Don’t let trauma prevent you from living a less stressful life. For more information on how I can help, please get in touch with me.
